Practical course "Integrative Bioinformatics"

Practical course "Integrative Bioinformatics"

One of the major problems in biological and medical research is to understand the development of cancer from healthy tissue. The mechanisms underlying cancer development are many and by no means fully understood. In order to correlate mutation, gene expression and other types of analysis an integrated approach is needed.

The practical course (Blockpraktikum) deals with the integration of biological data from different sources. The data will be modeled using the Unified Modeling Language (UML), classes will be implemented using a scripting language (Python), and a MySQL database will be used for data storage and retrieval. Finally, a statistical analysis of the collected data will be performed. In this analysis, a set of differentially expressed genes from existing gene expression data should be identified and "annotated" with secondary information.

The number of participants is limited to 8 students.
